Our Mission
We support the children of Adelaide Primary School with nutritious meals and enrichment opportunities that ease hardship, advance learning, nurture growth and strengthen our community.

Our History
The Adelaide Auxiliary was founded in 1976 by Sir Guy Henderson, former Chief Justice of The Bahamas, and his wife, Lady Ann Henderson. After discovering that some students at Adelaide Primary School did not have enough to eat, they set out to ensure that every child was well fed and able to focus on their studies.
What began as a small group preparing sandwich lunches has, over the years, grown into a dynamic, volunteer‑led organisation that works to address the many challenges our students face.
Over five decades, our programmes have reached thousands of children, continuing the founders' commitment to removing barriers to education through practical, dignified support.

Our Work Today
Our Food Programme remains central to our mission, providing fresh, healthy meals prepared daily in our school kitchen so that every child is well nourished and ready to learn.
We also provide educational, sporting and enrichment opportunities, and invest in the school environment, so that every child can learn, grow and thrive.

Collaboration & Support

We work with school leadership and The Ministry of Education to ensure that our initiatives align with national education goals and student wellbeing priorities.

The Lyford Cay Foundations have generously supported the Auxiliary's programmes for more than 30 years, contributing over $1 million in grants.

Since 2014, we have served as local agent for the Canadian Lyford Cay Foundation, helping to deliver its charitable mission in The Bahamas.
